Essential features of the essay

Essential features of the essay

Small volume: two to three or six pages – to decide for you. The main thing is to open the topic. Well, of course, do not aim at an epic – no one will appreciate your efforts.
Free form: up to spoken language. Essay does not claim to be scientific, does not require the introduction and conclusion, is not divided into chapters and paragraphs. The relative stylistics of the author leave complete freedom of creativity. However, switching to slang and allowing language mistakes is still not worth it. Especially if you are studying at a linguist.
The presence of a specific topic, which reveals an essay. The topic can be any – from “Who do I want to become when I grow up” (you remember these works) to “The main reason for problems with the employment of a young specialist.” If you want to post to a local newspaper, choose a specific question. If you are writing on a given topic, please feel free to disclose it.
Subjectivity: personal opinion of the author – main. Remember: you do not claim the truth at the last instance. You express your personal opinion. And no one obliges you to reveal the topic to the end.
Novelty: Tell a new word by topic. The main thing is that this word was yours. You do not need the uppercase truths. Believe me, your readers have long been bored with “the high school is the second home”, “my main dream is the world around the world” and the like.
Honesty: Fix your thoughts and emotions on the topic. Of course, if you hate your native high school or are hired to work in a big company solely through money and “chips”, your honesty is unlikely to appreciate. In other cases, a subjective view will be much more interesting for readers than laudatory ones.
The ability to correctly formulate thoughts and write without errors is, of course, good. Moreover, it goes without saying. Perhaps the employer will miss one or two mistakes by the ears, but the text written by somebody, even without checking in Word, describes you in the best way.
The form and style of the essay are not so important. Yes, creativity may appeal to the employer. But if in the text – only the capital truths, your efforts will disappear for nothing.
Content – that’s the main thing. Your ideas, thoughts, emotions – this is interesting to the reader. That’s exactly what you write an essay for.

Essay tips for beginners

Essay tips for beginners

There are a few suggestions for beginner essays or the rules for writing essays:

1. Remember the subject and the whole purpose of the essay. Your text should correspond to the title and the topic you are writing about. Do not “smear the nozzles on the tree” unless your idea requires it. Excessive detailed descriptions, even artistic, can serve you as a bad service.

2. Refine and observe the approximate amount of work done by a teacher or employer. Do not think that your zeal will be appreciated if you write two volumes on “How I came to a doctor’s profession” or “What does higher education mean for me?”

3. Divide the text into paragraphs, dilute the subheadings, if necessary, using the visual formatting tools. The time to read the canvas of the text was already in the century before. Your ability to keep an opinion in a paragraph on an entire page is not interested in anyone – this paragraph simply does not read. Make your text handy for the reader. Even if this reader is the only one.

4. To do without a long introduction. You are writing for a reader (probably only the one who put you the subject for an essay). No need to talk about the urgency of the problem, the importance of its solution for a modern person, do not need to list the goals and objectives of the essay, as you did in the abstract or course.

5. Your text should have a structure. Though some. The introduction and conclusion should be the default, even if they are one or two lines. It is important to structure and the main part. Determine where you put the problem where you argue or describe it. The problem and its argumentation must be in one form or another. You can formulate the problem both in the introduction and in the end.

6. Avoid water. Sometimes water is “technical” and semantic. “Technical water” is called all the words of the parasite, a large number of input phrases and words – in short, all that makes the text difficult to read.

7. Do not write by hand. Of course, there is everything. You may be asked to put a small essay on interview or during a bet. In such a situation, there is nowhere to go – we have to take a clean sheet of paper and work out calligraphy. If you can write an essay at home, do not give up the handwritten text.

8. Use the graphic editor and spelling check. Word is a friend of any student. Make indents, highlight headers, put the line spacing that will make the text readable. Make sure your essay is good to read. Well, pay attention to spell checking and punctuation.

What is an essay and how to write it?

What is an essay and how to write it?

This word was first used after 1580, when the French writer and philosopher Michel de Montaigne introduced him in his essay “Experiments” or “Les Essais”. Further distribution of the new genre was obtained at the end of the sixteenth century, and so continued until the twenties of the seventeenth. At this time, the English philosopher and politician Francis Bacon began to actively use the word essays in his writings.
Approximately at the same time, the term came to the playwright for the estate of Ben Johnson, who created the concept of essayist. It happened at the beginning of the seventeenth century.
So, what does the essay mean? If we turn to the etymology of a word, then we can see some duplicity, which, however, is very similar. The concept has a translation from the French language. In this case, the word essai will be translated as an attempt or essay. If you look at his Latin origin, then you can find the term exaguim, which is translated as “weighing”.
In the modern sense, the word essay refers to a certain literary genre of a small size, with a fairly free composition.
Typically, such works are concentrated on some particular issue, but they do not try to fully and completely illuminate it. The essay is based on the personal impressions of the author, in his own thoughts on the chosen theme.
To some extent, this genre is similar to a scientific article and a sketch, is somewhere between them. He also has similarities with a philosophical treatise.
Due to the fact that this literary genre is different in its free form, it is difficult to distinguish its severe features, but there are a number of points worth paying attention to. They will help answer the question of what an essay is and how to write it.
The essay always has a clear theme, some issue. If you deal with a few problems, then this is usually not an essay.
Such works are based on the personal opinion of the author, on his thoughts and impressions, and therefore they can not give any comprehensive and objective information.
Due to its subjectivity, the essay, in the main, helps to know more about the author himself, and not about what he writes.
Subjectivity also affects the nature of the records. They can be philosophical, literary-critical, can claim to be scientific or historical authenticity.

What is an essay?

Often in a variety of faculties, teachers ask students to write an essay. This helps to better understand the course of the students’ thoughts and sometimes opens them from an unexpected side (provided, of course, that the works they wrote themselves).

Many students are frightened by this task, because, at first glance, it is completely incomprehensible what they want from them and how the task ready for delivery should look. But in fact, writing an essay is much simpler than an essay or coursework, because in many respects it looks like school essays on a given topic, and with them for several years of study at school everyone should have become acquainted closely enough.

If you translate from French, then an essay is an attempt, or a trial. In other words, it is a kind of literary genre, which is distinguished by a small amount (as a rule, up to 5 pages), the absence of strict rules on the design and structure of content and presentation. For example, if for writing a term paper or a thesis some methodological recommendations and design requirements are usually developed and published, with a clear list of the chapters to be contained in the work, their content, the minimum number of sources used with specific years of publication, etc. , then for the essay, there are usually no requirements or they are minimal and limited to the amount of work (3-5 pages) and strict requirements for the uniqueness of the text (sometimes up to 90%).

The high demands on the uniqueness of the essay are due to several reasons. When giving a task to write an essay, the teacher, as a rule, wants to hear the thoughts of a particular student, to understand how well he is able to present them, what point of view he has, whether he can argue, how much he is capable of a coherent story, etc. Since this is not a scientific text, devoid of formulas, common places, theoretical materials, etc., it is a priori assumed that there can not be two absolutely identical points of view expressed in different creative works. Therefore, it is better not to write off the work of each other and not to download the finished work from the Internet. A competent and corrosive teacher will quickly understand that they are not written by you, and will not credit them.
